Director, Workforce

AdvanceCT, a nonprofit with a mission to grow the Connecticut economy by adding jobs and investment, in partnership with the business community and the state, seeks a Director of Workforce to help current and future employers meet their workforce needs. This position is located in the New Haven office, requires some instate travel and offers the opportunity for some remote work. The Director will build a network of Connecticut assets and leverage it to fill employers’ needs for trained staff, closely collaborating with the state and other partners. 

Key responsibilities are to:

  • Work with Connecticut employers to assess talent needs and find staffing solutions
  • Develop and grow relationships within the state workforce and education ecosystems and facilitate their communication with employers
  • Keep current with workforce training programs and act as a resource for current employers and business attraction efforts across industries
  • Represent AdvanceCT and advocate for employer needs in workforce groups such as the Office of Workforce Strategy and Regional Sector Partnerships

Candidate Qualifications

The successful candidate will have an entrepreneurial mindset and proven success developing business relationships using a collaborative team approach. Ideally, candidates should have:

  • An advanced degree or at least 10 years relevant professional experience in business, job placement, community organization, social services, education, or public administration, or related field
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary partners to achieve quantifiable goals
  • Experience with talent development 
  • Comfort meeting senior executives to assess talent needs
  • Excellent communication skills, including effectiveness in presentations
  • Strong project management skills and ability to multitask, with attention to detail
  • Knowledge of Connecticut post-secondary and workforce communities is a plus
