Associate Director, Business Development

Overview

AdvanceCT, a nonprofit working to grow the Connecticut economy, is hiring an Associate Director for the Business Retention and Expansion team. Part of AdvanceCT’s mission is to help Connecticut companies grow their businesses. The Associate Director will identify and build relationships with in-state businesses and manage business expansion and retention projects. Working with the state’s economic developers, the Associate Director will also build relationships with municipalities, the state’s Department of Economic and Community Development and other agencies, and various business and government associations, to meet the needs of Connecticut businesses. The position requires some in-state travel and represents AdvanceCT at various types of events.


Candidate Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a business development mindset and proven success following a relationship development process, with a track record of business development wins. Candidates should have:

  • A desire to grow jobs and make a positive economic impact in Connecticut
  • The ability to develop a strategy for targeting companies using research/data
  • Understanding of the lifecycle of business development projects
  • Comfort making cold calls, following up with leads and managing a sales process
  • Confidence to work independently to achieve goals
  • Excellent communication skills, including effectiveness in presentations
  • Consistent attention to detail
  • A collaborative, team style
