Research Analyst
AdvanceCT is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to grow Connecticut’s economy for the benefit of all its residents and businesses.
Position Overview
The research team supports AdvanceCT’s business attraction, retention and expansion initiatives. The Research Analyst will gather data, conduct research and analysis, prepare and deliver reports and presentations and provide thought leadership around Connecticut’s economic and business trends. Examples of the types of projects the team undertakes include:
- Industry trends and supply chain analysis
- Labor market assessments: labor shed, workforce availability, comparative wages
- Statewide economic performance
- Benchmarking and best practice studies of regional or local economic programs and incentives
- Business intelligence and financial statement analysis
AdvanceCT is a relatively flat organization, affording the Research Analyst regular exposure to senior team members and direct involvement in high-impact projects and important strategic initiatives. The organization works frequently with the leadership of the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development as well as on projects for the Office of the Governor.
Desired Candidate Qualifications
We are seeking strategic problem solvers with proven analytical capabilities, interest in industry deep dives, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. A Bachelor’s Degree in economics, finance, business or a related field and at least 4 years of prior analyst or like experience or an advanced degree is preferred. A working knowledge of business and economic data sources (including U.S. Census Bureau, BEA, BLS, CT DOL, Lightcast, and others), experience with visualization software, and fluency with MS Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint, are favorable. Intellectual curiosity and the ability to distill and synthesize complex information, summarize key insights, and clearly communicate conclusions are key. Familiarity with AI tools and the ability to utilize emerging technology is a plus. Experience in economic research, consulting, investment analysis, or statistics is helpful, but data-oriented individuals from diverse work and educational backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Location
The job is based on-site at AdvanceCT’s office in New Haven, CT. Partial remote work may be available.
