Thomas Hyde is chief of staff at AdvanceCT, where he helps drive the state’s economic development strategy through public-private collaboration. Previously, he served as chief executive officer of the Naugatuck Valley Regional Development Corp., and executive director of the Waterbury Development Corp., where he led efforts to secure transformative funding and deliver major infrastructure, clean energy and brownfield redevelopment projects.
He has also held senior leadership roles at the Department of Economic and Community Development under Governors Dannel Malloy and Ned Lamont.
What’s been your biggest professional accomplishment so far in your career?
At the Waterbury Development Corp. I established a new grants office that secured more than $65 million for the city, financing several impactful infrastructure, renewable energy and housing projects.
How are you involved in the community?
I serve as treasurer of the Connecticut Brownfield Land Bank and am a member of the Farmington Economic Development Commission. In both roles, I advance sustainable redevelopment and support local economic initiatives that strengthen Connecticut communities.
Why do you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty?

• Support business recruitment and expansion efforts that bring new jobs and investment to Connecticut.

What do you like to do outside of work?
With my wife Tina, I am navigating the joyful chaos of life with a toddler and a newborn. A proud Girl Dad, when I get a free moment, I enjoy golfing, watching UConn basketball, building LEGO sets and family excursions.
Fun Fact
I’ve been behind bars in almost every CT prison — but just long enough for a tour. (Work was related to prison reform under the Malloy administration).
