Globally recognized expert in Commercial and Military Engine Design, Development, and Manufacturing Expands Rocky Hill, Connecticut Operation

New Haven, Connecticut, March 24, 2025 – Today, AdvanceCT announces that MTU Aero Engines North America (MTU), a subsidiary of Germany-based MTU Aero Engines, is expanding its Rocky Hill, Connecticut headquarters. The Connecticut operation is focused mainly on engine design and research and development in both commercial and military aviation. MTU also provides third-party engineering services to customers in the aerospace and industrial gas turbine industries.

Originally starting with a small team of 25 people in 2000, MTU’s Connecticut operation has grown to more than 250 employees with more projected growth ahead. The company is looking to hire senior staff in Connecticut to fill key positions among the company’s expanding ranks.

“Our Rocky Hill facility is focused on engineering and design,” said Jonathan Leach, President and CEO of MTU Aero Engines North America. “We have been fortunate to find the engineering talent we need here in Connecticut, and we are thrilled to be looking for more.”

“MTU is a globally recognized expert in the development, production, and maintenance of military and commercial jet engines. It’s exciting to announce our growth and our intent to hire more skilled and creative employees to help us solve complex engineering challenges and create sustainable engine solutions for the future of aviation.”

“This is another example of a German company with a strong growth trajectory in our state,” said John Bourdeaux, President and CEO of AdvanceCT.

“MTU is an important partner to Connecticut companies, like Pratt & Whitney, and other aerospace companies around the world. Connecticut is an aerospace manufacturing leader and their operation in Rocky Hill enables them to be close to their clients. We are delighted they choose Connecticut for their operation, and we are even more delighted that their business is thriving and growing in our state.”

Last summer, a delegation from Connecticut that included Governor Lamont, Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Dan O’Keefe, and representatives from AdvanceCT visited MTU Aero Engines’ global headquarters in Munich, Germany, meeting with the company’s CEO, Lars Wagner. The delegation recognized the economic and cultural impact that MTU and other German manufacturers have on Connecticut’s advanced manufacturing ecosystem.
