AdvanceCT Names Peter Denious New President and CEO

Denious Brings Global Asset Management Leadership to Connecticut Economic Development Efforts

The AdvanceCT today announced their selection Peter Denious as its new President and CEO, effective immediately. The AdvanceCT board confirmed Denious by vote following a comprehensive search overseen by Co-chairs Jim Smith and Indra Nooyi along with Vice Chair Don Kendall and DECD Commissioner David Lehman. Dozens of candidates from across the nation, most from the Northeast region, were vetted in a search process.

Denious succeeds Robert Santy, who retired at the end of June after leading AdvanceCT for 13 years.

Denious is an accomplished private equity and venture capital professional who until recently was a senior leader with Aberdeen Standard Investments and previously FLAG Capital Management, where he spent most of his career overseeing investments across the U.S. and abroad and built strong relationships internationally during the firm’s push into Europe and Asia.

“Peter has the business development disciplines, finance and structuring skills, as well as strategic disposition and leadership gravitas to make a meaningful impact on economic growth in Connecticut,” said Smith and Nooyi in a joint statement. “He has basically spent his entire career putting the client first, helping realize commercial and economic opportunity through connecting ideas, people and capital. His accomplishments pair well with AdvanceCT’s mission and Governor Lamont’s vision.”

Denious will work collaboratively with leadership across the state, particularly DECD, the state’s leading economic development agency, to drive business retention and recruitment.

“I want to congratulate Peter and welcome him to AdvanceCT,” added Governor Lamont. “Peter’s background is well suited to help AdvanceCT redirect and expand its resources to better engage with the business community as well as leverage private sector relationships. I look forward to him hitting the ground running to help market our state overall and implement a new aggressive approach to attracting and retaining businesses in Connecticut.”

“I’m looking forward to leading AdvanceCT’s team and enthusiastic about the opportunity to leverage my prior business development and strategic management experience to positively affect the economic growth of Connecticut,” said Denious.

Denious is a graduate of Trinity College, received his MBA from the Tuck School at Dartmouth College, and is a long-time resident of Wilton, CT.

Smith acknowledged the able assistance of Heidrick & Struggles, a leading global search firm with a distinguished record of service to Connecticut companies.
